CURRENT TRANSFORMERS

 

STB’s current transformers can be round or square, solid core or split core, for permanent or semi-permanent installation. We offer a variety of lightweight, easy to use devices. The split core type were developed for installation on cable or bus without load interruption. The primary application for these transformers is for the continuous monitoring of current.

These transformers may be used with any indicating or recording equipment, including ammeter, wattmeter or power factor transducer. The standard 5 ampere secondary winding allows the transformer to be used with all types of transformer-rated meters.

Our transformers come as torroids or split cores, round or square, and with
or without mounting brackets.



 
 

The laminated silicon steel core is strip wound and grain oriented for minimum excitation current. Depending on the unit you choose, it is either epoxied or encapsulated in a high impact material. The split core units are held together by fasteners. Mounting brackets are available upon request.

The output accuracy on most units is ±1% for ratios above 500:5 amperes, and ±2% for 500:5 amperes and below at rated current and VA. (May vary slightly depending on the particular transformer you choose to meet your needs.)

Insulation rating is 600 volts - 10kV BIL, but the transformer may be used over insulated conductors on high voltage circuits.


ORDERING INFORMATION:

Transformers come in window sizes starting at 1.5 inches in diameter (38 cm). Ratios begin at 100:5 and up. Transformers can be designed to have multiple ratio taps.


CAUTION: Proper safety precautions must be followed during installation by a trained electrician. It is recommended that the incoming power be de-energized before installation. The current transformer must have its secondary terminals short circuited or the burden connected, before energizing the primary circ
uit.
