STB

Lineman College in Meridian,
Idaho. Students at NLC
will be introduced to
STB products and get hands
on experience with the
units.
Northwest Lineman College
was founded in 1993 with
the initial purpose of
being an institution that
would provide introductory
training to potential
power delivery employees
who, in most cases, would
become apprentice linemen.
This was the start of
the Electrical Lineworker
Program.
Since then the Electrical
Lineworker Program has
been refined and has become
a nationally recognized
program, which consistently
produces graduates who
are on their way to successful
careers in the power delivery
and communication fields.
Three classes a year are
offered and approximately
130 students graduate
each year. Utilities and
contractors look to Northwest
Lineman College as a source
of highly qualified candidates
for vacant positions.
The college has expanded
its facilities to include
15 acres of training area
and a new 6000 \square
foot administration building.
Studies are in progress
to determine the feasibility
of adding dormitory facilities.
The college also provides
other specialized training
in the areas of live line
work, transformers, confined
space entry and rescue,
pole climbing techniques
and other related subjects.
The college is highly
committed to accident
prevention and has developed
a line of high quality
safety posters that have
been well received by
the electric industry.
Other products are offered
including a pocket transformer,
pocket rigging card, a
transformer connection
card, and Slim the Lineman
memorabilia.
The college’s mission
statement confirms a commitment
to provide the benchmark
standard of training.
They make every effort
to teach the students
current, safe, and effective
methods and procedures.
They also make every effort
to use the state of the
art high quality tools
and equipment.
To this end, they have
entered into agreements
with several manufacturers
whose products use the
latest technology and
are the highest quality.
These manufacturers provide
them with the tools or
equipment and the college
exposes the students to
the use of the tools or
equipment during the training.
Their most recent agreement
is with STB.
STB has provided the college
their latest phase rotation
meters, a phasing instrument,
sticks, ammeter, and a
voltage detector. Both
students and staff are
now learning how to operate
these instruments and
they have been impressed
with the quality and ease
of operation.
The college will continue
to look for ways to improve
the quality of training
and education which will
result in providing the
highest quality graduates
to the industry.
